PROFILE: GARY BERKOWITZ

For over 35 years, Gary has been involved in every aspect of the operation and management of high quality, financially successful radio stations. From on air personality to music and program director, Gary has done it all since graduating Emerson College in Boston with a BS in Speech and Mass Communications.

Gary became the original Program Director to put the now legendary PRO-FM in Providence on the air for Capital Cities/ABC radio. Some 30+ years later, PRO-FM still sits on top of the Providence marketplace, using many of the strategies put in place by Gary.

The next assignment was RKO's WROR Boston. The goal: to transition the station from an automated oldies station to a full service, music intense AC station. In less than a year, WROR became a top 5 player in Boston's crowded 25-54 marketplace.

After two successful years in Boston, Berkowitz returned to Providence to help Capital Cities re-build PRO-FM, as well as its heritage full service AM station, WPRO. Within one book under Gary's leadership, both PRO stations were number one and number two in the market.

The next step leads to Detroit to program Capital Cities/ABC's 50,000 Full Service powerhouse WJR and CHR WHYT. Under Gary's leadership, WHYT developed its best numbers ever as a CHR and Newstalk WJR was always #1 25-54.

Staying in Detroit, Gary then joined Broadcasting Partners, Inc., to launch one of the country's first Hot AC's, Q95. In less than one years, Gary's custom-designed, flanker format on Q95 had gone from a non-player 25-54, to being #1 in this major market.

Berkowitz Broadcast Consulting was established in 1990 with the purpose of helping Adult Contemporary Radio Stations achieve higher ratings. Today, Gary Berkowitz represents North America's highest rated AC stations owned by major groups such as CBS Radio, Greater Media, and Mapleton Communications, as well as stations owned by smaller groups and individual owners.
